Lent Schedule: Begins February 17

Our journey through Lent 2010 begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17 with worship services at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. On this day our foreheads are marked with ashes as we hear again these words: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” We are reminded of our creation and of our mortality even as they point us to the one who died for us, Jesus the Christ.

The journey continues each Wednesday evening (February 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24) as we gather for a simple supper beginning at 5:45 p.m. and midweek worship at 7 p.m. Each week during worship we will focus on one of the five senses as we explore the meaning of Christ’s incarnation and death.

The observance of Holy Week begins the weekend of March 27-29 with Palm/Passion Sunday during our regular weekend services. We gather for worship on Maundy Thursday (April 1) at 7 pm. After we celebrate the sacrament, we watch in silence as the altar is stripped bare. Children are encouraged to attend the Good Friday Children’s Service at 5:30 pm on April 2. The meaning of the death of Christ will be explored in a simple age appropriate way in this interactive service. A traditional Good Friday service will be held at 7 pm. This service takes shape around three events:  the reading of the passion, the bidding prayer, and the adoration of the cross.

All of this serves to prepare us for a glorious celebration of the resurrection of Christ on Easter weekend April 3 – 5. Worship times are as follows: Saturday, 5:30 pm; Sunday, 8:30, 9:45, 11:15 a.m., 5:30 p.m.; Monday, 7:00 p.m.
